R300.00R900.00

At an elevation of 2,400 metres above sea level, the ancient Inca citadel of Machu Picchu was built in the 15th century but then abandoned, for reasons that are unclear. Set high in the Andes above the Urubamba River it is renowned for its sophisticated dry-stone walls that fuse huge blocks without the use of mortar, intriguing buildings that play on astronomical alignments and panoramic views. Much of the surrounding forested landscape is protected and provides habitat for species such as Andean Condor, Andean Bear and Andean Cock-of-Rock.
